SUPPORT AMERICAN TROOPS! What does this statement mean?

SUPPORT AMERICAN TROOPS serving in Iraq & Afghanistan!

What does this statement mean exactly?

I am anti-war. Period. I was in the Army for 4 years. I signed the dotted line. I was 18 and legally an adult as far as the government was concerned. According to the government, I was able to make my own decisions (except of course I could not decide if I wanted a beer or not. The drinking age was 21. The government thought I was old enough to die for my country, but not old enough to have a beer, go figure. We’ll discuss that at another time.).

Soldiers join the military for many reasons. GI BILL, adventure, to get away, learn a trade, and yes there are even those Nationalistic ‘ate-up’ ones that join to kill a Commy for Mommy. Point is, regardless of the bells and whistles the Military provides; we all join a War Machine.

That’s it.

By joining the military, like it or not, you are supporting war. So don’t be surprised when they call you up (Reverves, National Guard included) to ‘serve’ (i.e. kill others and perhaps be killed) your country. You sign the dotted line, you are THEIRS.

That brings me to ‘Support The Troops’ and its implications. We all make mistakes. We’re Human. It is what we do: we fuck up all the time. But most of the time, no one hates us for our mistakes.

For example; we may be disappointed when our children do something we think is wrong, malicious or stupid; but we still love our children, we still nurture our children, we show the children where their mistakes are. We still give the children food, clothes, our love. We don’t put the child out into the street, spit on the child, beat the child.

In short we Support the Children, just not the (stupid, malicious wrong) actions they do.

Support the Troops. Indeed. But let’s not get that confused with Anti-war which the Media and those that watch Foxnews or listen to Glenn Beck (there are people take that guy seriously?) seem to muddy.  To see how this statement was received – Read the comments below then leave your own.

Peace in the Middle East.

What does it mean to support the Troops?

We have to send them money?
Julian Bush
it means get them home!
Leon Rene LaPointe
Kinda like starving kids in Africa… Support a soldier, make sure he learns to read and write, goes to school, every few weeks you get a photo and a thankyou letter… I think?
Leon Rene LaPointe
Oh? So by supporting a soldier, the American army will send one to live with you at your own house?
·
Larry Glasco
it means stand behind them no matter your belief as they are only doing thier assignement or job as you do every day you have a choice to do your job or not they do not their consequences for not following orders are much more severe then you not … while you sleep or play on here they hardly ever sleep while you go shopping they wear the same clothes for days so yes please support them and let them no they are loved and cared for
Leon Rene LaPointe
I support the troops under that definition, I even support the war in afghanistan, but I do not support the war in Iraq…
Mars Alexandre
Like… psychological support ? Well , under those circumstances of “no choice” and go follow orders like a dumb dog , I guess it is fare at least thinking people feel pity on them and show some compassion…
Can you imagine the feeling of guilt after know that the whole thing was just a mascarade to steal a whole nation’s oil?
Well…I do believe in Obama’s intentions of peace , but that doesn’t erase that they massacred and destroyed a whole nation and murdered thousands of human beings under the new Hitler’s regime (Bush admin) Just for oil… or money or what ever the hell the son of a bitch was thinking …
Yes I do pity them (it is some sort of support isn’t it?)
No offense here , the U.S. are beautiful people and I can say that because I have very good friends there , just … thanks God dark ages are over , and finally U.S. can have a breathe … and so the rest of the planet…
Leon Rene LaPointe
Why else wage war? Oil is a pretty good reason to wage war! I think the thing that pisses people off is that they weren’t up front about it, if they had slick commercial made about how cool oil is before they invaded everyone would totally be for it… The mistake was not the act but the message. Hire better propaganda ministers is my opinion.
It means to send them care packages and let them know that you appreciate their service regardless of what you believe. As the sister to Paul’s COUSIN (yes that makes him my cousin too but the lack of support he has for my brother makes me feel less like family) who is deployed in Iraq as we speak, I find this sort of cruel and idiotic banter offensive. I don’t believe we should be at war but its not the soldier’s fault. I’m sure if any of you were in his place right now you’d be upset by the lack of compasion and understanding found here. I’m not stupid and I know all about your war for oil crap but I don’t care about that any more, what I care about is that my baby brother comes home safe. Talking about how there should be a war doesn’t make it go away!!!!! Voting the right people in does. So shut up and do something or go stop making asses out of yourselves by babbling sarcastic comments about men and woman who are doing a Jon most of you can’t do if you tried
Leon Rene LaPointe
Yeah, we understand all that but its more fun to be sarcastic on the internet.
Nicki Dunton
Well I’m glad that my 19 year old brother, soon to be father, risking his life round the clock provides you with hours of entertainment. *note the sarcasm* ignorance is bliss.  I’ve stated my mind and now I’m going to bed. Karma is a bitch 🙂 have a good night or day, what ever time it is where ever you are.
Leon Rene LaPointe
Oh c’mon now… Cheeky internet chat is not going to lose the war.
No its not, but I’m not concerned about losing or winning. Just my brother. I don’t find this “cheeky” either. I’m probably too tired to joke about my brothers life, goodnight
Leon Rene LaPointe
I erased my last reply and it was not related to any of your spelling or grammar. So you replied to something that I wrote before that made little sense… I said before previously that I am not against the troops, I stated before that I am anti-Iraq war, pro-afghanistan war… Anti-peace, pro-calm… And support your brother, but have no support for the crap that got him involved in an unjust war in Iraq. Cheers!
You must have erased it while I was typing my reply. Sorry. And frankly I was more upset with “mars” and their comments than yours. I have also previously stated that I don’t agree with the reasons we went to war either, but all that goes out the window when some one you adore is fighting that war no one likes. Your focus becomes them and their life, yes you still vote for changes etc but arguments like these become transparent and meaningless. Not nearly important as your loved one’s life. Yes, I’m passionate about this, its my brother that I love dearly, and I’m passionate about the people I love, don’t even get me started about my kids lol
Dwayne Young
The war in Afghanistan is just as unjust as the war in Iraq is in my opinon.
I can’t see how you can be pro one war and anti the other.
What has Afghanistan done to deserve what they got?
Is it because the Taleban supposidly harbour a fugitive that was supposidly “the mastermind” of 9/11…(the same Taleban who wiped out herion production while in power but which now flourishes under “occupation”)
Why not find the “fugitive” and leave the people alone!
The Taleban is the people of Afghanistans problem not the U.S or anyone elses problem. There is no need to meddle in their internal politics.
That is a problem for the people of Afghanistan to solve. The C.I.A has proven links to terrorist organisations…Does this then give permission for countries to go and liberate the people of America from tyranny???
It’s fuckin madness. Both wars are being fought on fraudulent fronts.
Damian Randall
I’m with Dwayne on this one.
Mars Alexandre
About your brother my friend , yes , I agree with you and understand and support your comment , I know that feeling as well, I also went to war but I refused to follow orders as I was fighting for a cause , not for money and I sure faced the consecuences. we all have a choice my friend , it is the beauty of being human … Free will…
M.A.D. Mutual assured destruction … When are humans going to understand that we are 1 species… I know war better than what I would like…pain, suffering, stress , it affects not only the victims and the soldiers , also thousands of families and relatives as it is your case, trust me I know…
I apologize if my comment was some how … offensive… But same as me , hour brother has a choice , we all do , follow , fight and even die is worth if it is for the right reason , to protect those we love , for freedom , for a noble idea . I do not support genocide under any circumstance. Get your brother out of there.
I admire your passion and support and understand your feelings.
Jennifer Marie Williams
Supporting troops also means being there for the families left behind. As achild of a military parent, I understand the psychological damage to the families and soldier this causes. Just as I know the consequences of themnot following orders like a “dumb dog”. If Boston is using this platform to provoke thought or change. What good does the sarcasm and bitching do for the rest who are passers by? I’d rather appear thoughtful, passionate and open to others perspectives than slinging insults whether intentional or not. Of course if the nternet is your alter ego… Makes me wonder what’d you do when the worlds ills are again at your front door. Will you stand and speak for yourself? Or will you look for that Persn in camoflauge to do the dirty work? Or that officer in blue you taunt at rallies? Curious.

***i apologize for the length of this***

paul, it cant possibly mean something ‘exact’ for anyone. the statement itself has been been politicized since september 12th, despite the fact we have been intervening militarily in both afghanistan and iraq since the 1980s. ‘support the troops’ has become a red herring argument for both sides of the spectrum, thus deflecting attention away from why there is such a need for a military presence in the middle east in the first place. you people are debating in a house of mirrors. its sometimes embarrassing to read, but they represent baby steps.

the easiest answer is the right one – the US will never withdraw troops from the middle east because it never has. theyve been there for 30 years already. this is a global, imperialist, strategy set in motion a generation ago. geo-politically, the US govt knew it must maintain their ground, along with corporate and national ties, to stay afloat in latter half of this century. russia has resources that china will need once the mediterranean shipping lanes and, most importantly, pipelines (see afghanistan), will be auctioned to the highest bidder (and by bidder, i mean the one with the biggest gun – a.k.a. the US). the chess pieces just arent already on the board, we are halfway through the match. … See More

most people dont even realize theres a game going on.

the amazing thing about revisionist history is that most people dont read what comes before it, deluded by the belief that as the species evolves so will the integrity of our intentions, or, at least, the integrity of the literate. ironically, history has shown us the opposite, which is why its imperative to absorb as much as we can from all viewpoints and all times.

we sit and read/watch another report of a suicide bomber blowing up a crowded market, or listen to absurd shit-politik and we take our anger to the only place we believe to have a voice… the internet. and we yell things like, ‘tyranny,’ and, ‘no blood for oil,’ and other meaningless statements like, ‘support the troops serving in iraq and afghanistan!’

however, i have friends in those countries right now and i would like to see them again. this is why i suggest that this statement cannot ‘exactly’ mean the same for anyone.

Brian Michael Fall
“Support the Troops” What does it mean? It depends entirely on who says it.
To one, it may mean “shut up, look the other way and let us do what we what, right or wrong.”
To another, it may mean “stop wasting them in foreign lands and bring them home to serve where they’re needed, respected, wanted and loved.”
Whatever reason you say it’s for, the fruit has rotted and fallen off the tree before it even ripened.
Where’s the cheap gas? Where are the shining new democracies of the middle east?… See More
WWII was fought over 6 years covering an entire contintent ( I’m only referring to the European theatre here) involving many countries against an army that even at that time makes the best of today’s middle eastern armies pale in comparison.
I think the relevent question is why the hell isn’t the job done yet?
If you were performing your job in this half-assed manner, you’d have been sacked ages ago.
In short, political and military leaders of today are disgracefully useless, incompetent and inept.
The only I agree with Craig is that it means something different to everyone. The rest goes back to what I said about how all of these political and philisophical discussions become mute when we are waiting for a loved one to come home safely. I appreciate all the positive and understanding comments made. Sitting here debating on facebook ISN’T going to change the world or humanity, living your live positively will. and in one of my lasts posts it should say that he is soon to be A father, I Re-read it and realized it sounded like he was going to be MY father lol
Yeah. Oil and in the name of god. Two perfectly good reasons to wage war *rolls eyes*. Hey, just think, if the world hadn’t used either of those for that very reason, we may only have Hitler to blame for anything, right?
Kristen LeNormand Arute
So much commentary from such uninformed people! Like being an authority on parenting when you don’t have any children of your own! Having an opinion is one thing, but the sarcastic pseudo-intelligent comments are pretty ridiculous. Nicki, my brother-in-law didn’t meet his son until he was 5 months old because he was stationed in Kuwait 19 years ago. It was very difficult on my sister and the whole family. I hope your brother doesn’t have to wait 5 months to meet his baby. I wish him a safe return home.
Thank you so much Kristen! His son is due in December, he is going to to get his mid-your leave for that time but no guarantees, he may have to wait just as long unfortunately.
Kristen LeNormand Arute
Good luck! I hope it works out. And he could be home for Christmas too! 🙂

Support the troops by supporting peace!
Hey, my cousin was 6 months pregnant at the time of 9/11 and was due at work in the north tower that morning. She had morning sickness and missed her commuter rail into Manhattan. Thank the gods for small favors, or I would have lost more than the one relative I did that day (cousin whom I didn’t know related by marriage on one of the planes that went down). My boyfriend is former navy and very proud of it. We all have our reasons to support or not support the military in whatever form. Here, I’ll open a whole new can of worms-Bush was a fucking idiot who should have been shot and put out of our misery.
Yeah but its not the military’s fault, the politicians control the military so its rather ignorant NOT to support our soldiers who are in harm’s way. My brother didn’t cause any conflict with Iraq or Afganistan, but its him over there, (saving lives mind you as a crew chief of a med unit) not bush or any other politicians. Direct your anger at the right people and leave the people who die for YOU out of it.

What does supporting the troops mean? To one Army Mum that has started a program called Operation Desert Swap (a group of people who actively support our troops with letters cards, care packs & books) it means that there are peoples sons/daughters, fathers/mothers, sisters/brothers, nieces/nephews, grandchildren, aunts/uncles, cousins, and friends who are far far from home in conditions that a family member or friend hates to see them in. A dangerous place, a place far different then they are used to, who deserve to be remembered, cared for and appreciated.

To clear the muddy waters you all have created let me tell you that there is a difference between supporting the war(s) and supporting the human beings invovled in it/them. There is a difference between fighting for your country and fighting for your gov’t. You ppl act as tho America is a home of politicians. America is filled w/ millions of ppl, ordinary ppl who want to be protected against terrorism (which includes being terrorized by our gov’t)

Over my dead cold body will my son and the others who serve be treated like my husband was treated when he came home from Vietnam. They are only the game pieces not the game players. Keep your criticism for the players.

For a group of ppl proclaiming love & peace, you sure are filled with hate, intolerance & disrespect….hypocrits.

Now, I am done, for those w/o the brains to figure out what that means, it means I will say no more on this subject.

  • “Now, I am done, for those w/o the brains to figure out what that means, it means I will say no more on this subject.”

BP Note: I love this line. Now I am done and you know what that means? I’m finished. I will say no more… really! That’s it. No more on this subject! The end!

Isn’t it pretty similar, actually, to “support your local convenience store sales clerk”? I mean the functionality is fairly similar right? They both give you things you don’t need at a fraction of what they cost in terms of resource availability. And they both smell of ointment… sometimes. At least my local one does… haven’t smelled any soldiers lately. I think it’s late.
Mars Alexandre
Who ever it is that has a brother overseas …
I see just a blank silhouette with no name on it , so feels like writing to a ghost here …
So what you are basically saying here is that your brother is a volunteer victim of the system , and you are deeply worried about him? (Don’t mean to be rude here bro , I really know what you are going through)
1) Who named US “police of the world”?
2) Why US has troops in the middle east?”Terrorism”? or just has military advantage so can invade any nation that has something US wants…… See More
3) I am not against US , I am against war … ANY WAR! and I do believe at this point of evolution humans SHOULD UNDERSTAND THAT WE ALL SHARE THIS PLANET AND HAVE NOWHERE ELSE TO GO.
4) So they are rebuilding what they messed up , and saving the same people they murdered?
5) No matter the excuse army has to be in foreign land , just the fact they are there it is an invasion.
So , if some bigger nation invade your land and kill your family , would you love that nation?
6)THE GREAT MENACE OF TERRORISM… let me try to find something that actually makes sense on that one… Oh yes … money…
7) So , if 9/11 was a legitimate terrorism attack (With all do respect for the victims and their relatives) means it is a license for murder anywhere any time , even send your brothers and sisters to a living hell and cause pain and death to so many people?
8) Why US military has to make sure no one else has nuclear power? (I AM AGAINST WEAPONS OF ANY KIND)
9)Who can certify that US military has no nuclear weapons? So the rest of the planet can sleep in peace.
10 Gorge Bush … same as Hitler … Will he ever take responsibility for his actions and go to trial?
Brother , your brother is risking his life in a war that is not his war , you are in a horrible pain because of that just to make millions to the Bush family.
Tell me: Are you still support this criminal?
I sure hope your brother returns home safe , you can be sure he will be in my prays.
Leon Rene LaPointe
Go live in Afghanistan… The thing is pre-gulf war II anyone could have lived in Iraq with very little problems in a vaguely secular society… Afghanistan has been fucked for ages. I support the NATO intervention in messed up country that treats its citizens like shit beyond any of the little tears the oh-so oppressed western world has with all these oh-so terrible conspiracies we have all the time in the world to follow, while people are getting their heads chopped off in afghanistan for being gay or a supposed adulterer… Fuck peace, I support moments of calm. Peace is achieved when humans get a new brain or finally die out and replaced by the next bunch ass-munchers.
Mars Alexandre
The world is divided …
Proves that humans are no longer one species…
So sad…
Anyway … internal politics of another country…
How is that US concern? Is it humanity?
Or just a chance to find an excuse for an invasion , stealing resources and make millions?
Well , let me rephrase that…
How is that Gorge Bush concern?
Leon Rene LaPointe
By all of your hippy dippy wishy washy logic we should have allowed the Nazi’s to totally eradicate Europe. People who can afford that form of logic are usually the privledged. The rest of the world has to eat what is put on the plate while we get our panties in a bunch over a slice of meat…
Leon Rene LaPointe
The world aint divided, there ain’t two species of mankind, there is just humans and human problems… In order to remove the problems you must remove the dynamics of the human mind, you must remove variables , you must remove drama, to remove these aspects of the human mind you create machines, peaceful machines at the expense of all this chaos makes us non-human… I would rather live here on this flawed earth than an eternity in heaven or an engineered heaven on earth ran by men who ideologized peace, for heaven if it does exist would very quickly be just like earth if humans are in anyway involved…
Leon Rene LaPointe
THE ONLY GOOD PARTY… IS A RIOT!!!
Mars Alexandre
Mr. LaPointe:
1) “By all of your hippy dippy wishy washy logic we should have allowed the Nazi’s to totally eradicate Europe.”
ISN’T GORGE BUSH EXACTLY THE SAME AS ADOLF HITLER? (answer depends on which side of the line are you , as everything else is relative , isn’t it?)
2) “People who can afford that form of logic are usually the privileged.”
Maybe , yes , I have two master degrees and very proud to say I made it myself , I was a street child and remember looking for food in the garbage outside the local restaurants , I cleaned toilets to pay for my studies and still now feel I am the same , only have acquired knowledge (in the end , that is all I will take with me , things will remain here)… See More
It is how you rule your thinking , your mind and your heart what makes you get out the hole… and become who you truly are.
But this argument is not about you and me and how different we think as we have no power to change anything , only let go a little bit that bitter feeling all this oil-money war parade has left within all human kind.

George Bush was/is hardly Hitler, as much as that would be nice for us to have a super villian in our generation. Obama is actually the anti-Christ 😛 so touche Hitler!

Your ability to even go and get an education is because of this evil conspiracy against humanity society we live in. I don’t think children in Afghanistan get that option in the slightest unless their parents happen to have tonnes of money. I am not saying that it doesn’t happen, but it would be fair to say that an average impoverished westerner has a better oppurtunity to elevate themselves than one would in Afghanistan prior 911.

The world is not a battle between good and evil or black and white… It is merely a clusterfuck of grey.

Mars Alexandre
Ha! There we go! Yap , have them both and love them both.Well… I can perfectly imagine Bush and Powell “The great dictator” Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!
Leon Rene LaPointe
Mars Alexandre
Mr. LaPointe :
When and where I grew up had very similar conditions to those places you mention (Yes an average of 100 murders a day , and police doing nothing but stealing and assaulting , oppression as you have no idea) Still I will not deny I was lucky to scape…

“The world is not a battle between good and evil or black and white… It is merely a clusterfuck of grey.”
I like this one , and totally agree.

Sure, just ask and I’ll share.
Leon Rene LaPointe
Mars I enjoy finding out your view on these things, trust me I not hell-fire and damnation or even actually concerned about world politics, I do admit that I don’t toe the popular line on a lot of issues though, I am neither democrat or republican. I personally believe that the only real peace a man can hope to achieve is hopefully within his own family or a small group of friends. Strive for the small victories, I guess…

Everyone wins in internet debate!

CONFUSING THE TERMS ANTI-WAR & SUPPORT THE TROOPS/REBUTTAL TO RIGHT WING VIDEO

US MILITARY TRIBUTE

This was sent to me by a friend.

I watched it.

Comments on why this video is Bullshit.

Read on.

This is a video that is being sent out to the Masses. I got it a few days ago and am flabbergasted that people fall for this Bullshit. All of a sudden being ‘antiwar’ is ‘not supporting the troops’.

What does ‘Support the Troops’ mean anyway? One can certainly be anti-war and still support the Trooper they Love without supporting what the Trooper is doing.

This is how I supported my Brother who was in Iraq for 2 years:

I kept in touch with him through Email, IM and the occasional phone call. I sent him links with information on why he was there in the first place. He read them and told me what he felt. We discussed it. I pitched in and added to the Care Packages that were sent to him by the rest of my Family.

My Brother knew every step of the way that while I was there for him, I was AGAINST THE WAR.

Here are the reasons why this video infuriates me.

The Intellectually Challenged Sheep listen to the Corporate Media (FOX CNN, Glenn Beck, ETC.) and the Rhetoric spewed out like Blood from a Cheap Thriller such as Bush’s “with us or against us” BS. They eat this Sentiment up.

Support the Troops? Why doesn’t the US Government support the f*cking Troops? The Government sends its Troops to the Middle East, often with Substandard Equipment; Shitty Intel; and a Brainwashed Notion that they (the Troops) are actually fighting for Amerika’s Freedom.

And speaking of Supporting the Troops, what about supporting the Veterans that come out of the Middle East very much different than when they went in? Veterans are refused or given inadequate care. Is this how they are rewarded for ‘serving their country’? Perhaps if  the Corporations and their puppet (the Amerikan Government) stopped raping and pillaging the Rest of the World, it could afford to give Health-Care to its Veterans & its Civilian Citizens. But the Slave Owners that use Money like a dangling Carrot do not care about a Healthy Populace. It is better if the Masses are of Ill-Health. Sick People do not start Revolutions.

Amerika got its Freedom 200 years ago when  it spanked England’s Hiney in the Revolutionary War. That was the last time Soldiers fought for Amerika’s Freedom.

The US government has been taking away those Freedoms ever since.

The Patriot Act is just another nail in the Coffin.

*Note – the term Troop or Trooper will be used to include all those in the Military.

I took the Liberty of writing down the text in this video so that one may analyze the author’s writing without the Nickleback Music (a band that attracts a 14 to 35 year old male demographic) and the pictures of Amerikan Troops looking lonely, anguished, and pitiful. Each sentiment can then be addressed without the Music & Images i.e. smoke and mirrors.

But first, let’s talk about Style. The writing, which is not very good (there are spelling & grammar mistakes), and many of his ideas/statements seem forced as you will see) This video seems have been made to reach the Masses -there are over 180,000 hits at the writing of this essay – thus a Rebuttal of this Nature was begging to be drafted.

The video text is also written in 2nd person.

2nd person  narrative is difficult to pull off even for The Greats like Hawthorne, but if it is done well, this type of narration allows (or forces) the reader to imagine him or herself within the action of the novel or in this case, the text. One effect of writing in second-person (and frequently exploited by the Corporate Media) is a strong accusatory tone, which can be achieved if the Narrator condemns or expresses strong feelings about the actions of the focal character (“you”). This technique can also be used effectively to place the Reader in unfamiliar, disturbing, or exciting situations, which this video indeed attempts. How many of you have been in the Military? For many of you, I assume your exposure to the Military (especially in combat situations) is rare. This puts you at the Mercy of the Author.

For the uneducated or the unaware, the Author may achieve what he set out to do; which is to make you feel Guilty for not ‘supporting the Troops’.  The Scholar, the un-brainwashed, and the Thinker can wade through the Grey Area (though the Grey is as wide and thick as the smoke from Amerikan bombs dropped on innocent civilians in the Middle East) and distinguish, or at the very least, find a  not so comfortable medium between Supporting the Troops and Supporting the Military.

Please keep in Mind that the Troopers the Author is talking about do not represent the majority of the Military who are NOT in a Combat Situation. This short video is talking about Troopers that have signed up to join the Military and subsequently got called to ‘Service’.

 The Video is called:

US Military Tribute – Far Away – Nickleback

You can watch the video here:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iyXYot6wHuE

Watch it. Read this Rebuttal and then watch it again.

THE TEXT

1. “You stay up for 16 hours and he stays up for days on end.”

* Sometimes Troops do stay up days on end. That is what they are trained i.e. Brainwashed to do. But this is generally for Missions. When not on Mission, they sleep like anyone else does. The Author is also lumping everyone together here. There are many that stay up for days on end doing dangerous/risky jobs – Doctors, Truck Drivers, Those in the Peace Corps, News Reporters in Hostile Environments. I’m sure there are also Innocent Civilians in Iraq and Afghanistan that have been staying up for days on end since Amerika invaded their Country.

2. “You take a warm shower to help you wake up. He goes days or weeks without running water.”

* The Author is assuming that everyone in Society gets running water and warm showers. Indeed, I remember the Water Truck arrival and the great feeling of being able to wash my Bits in a miniscule shower after days in a Combat Situation or in  field training. I know Tree Planters that also have gone days or weeks without running water. And let us not forget the Homeless & Poor in Amerika the Free, many of whom also do not have running water.

3. “You complain of a headache and call in sick. He gets shot at as others are hit and keeps moving forward.”

*This statement is suggesting that Everyone is a lazy, undisciplined or that Everyone has a job to call in sick to. Disobeying an order in a Combat Situation to ‘move forward’ can also result in the death/shooting of the Rebel Trooper by his Superior.

4. “You put on your antiwar/don’t support the troops shirt and go meet up with your friends. He still fights for your right to wear that shirt.”

*He still fights for your right to wear that shirt?

This is Bullshit. The Author is lumping ‘antiwar’ and ‘don’t support the troops’ together. They are two different Animals. He does not acknowledge the Grey Area at all. He is also Patronizing those who are Anti-War Demonstrators with ‘go meet your friends’ undermining the impact of a Rally/Demonstration.

I also smell photoshop with that photograph.

One question you may ask yourself is, ‘how is the Amerikan Trooper fighting for your Right to wear that shirt, especially in another country?’

5. “You talk trash about your buddies that are not with you. He knows he may not see some of his buddies again.”

*This statement is discombobulated. Talk trash about your buddies? Why? Who does this? If you’re talking trash about your buddy, perhaps he was not your buddy in the first place.

Many of us may not see our buddies again for numerous reasons; Physicians prescribing the wrong pharmaceuticals, for example; or cancer patients that live in a country (like The States) with terrible Health Care. Any dangerous job has the risk of not seeing your buddies again because one of you may die.

6. “You walk down the street staring at all the pretty girls. He patrols the streets searching for insurgents and Terrorists.”

*I won’t even address the patronizing ‘pretty girls’ statement.

The word ‘insurgent’ is tossed around the English Lexicon like marbles in a bag and is often confused/synonymous with the word Terrorist. How are Citizens (the Iraqi People for example) fighting an Invader (like America) make them Insurgents? The People are fighting an Occupying Entity on THEIR LAND. Amerikans did the same thing in the Revolutionary War; they fought an Enemy (Britain) off their Land using Guerilla Tactics. The Native Americans did the same thing, but failed in getting the white man off their Land. This statement is ridiculous.

7. “You complain how hot it is. He wears his heavy gear not daring to take off his helmet to wipe is brow.”

*The Trooper also complains how hot it is and could die if he takes off his heavy gear. Why? Because he chose to be in the situation he is in. One should never wish Ill upon another and one prays to bring the Troops home safe. But this is a fluff statement designed to tear-jerk.

8. “You go out to lunch and complain that the restaurant got your order wrong. He doesn’t get to eat today.”

*One complains about their order being wrong because they pay for their order. The Trooper – unless there are extenuating circumstances – gets at least 3 MREs a day, paid for by You the Tax Payer. Everyone goes without Food now and again for whatever reason. The Homeless and Poor might go days without Food. I’m sure no Trooper is looking into garbage-bins for their food like the roughly 500,000 (and growing) Homeless in The States. This statement is another fluffer.

9. “Your maid makes your bed and washes your clothes. He wears the same things for weeks but makes sure his weapons are clean.”

*Maid? How much of the population anywhere has a Maid? This statement tells more about the Author than anything else. It is another patronizing, weak statement.

There are a few reasons why the Trooper makes sure his Weapons are clean.

Here are two of them:

1. The clean Weapon will save his Life (often at the expense of another’s Life). 2. Weapons are property of the US government and are routinely inspected. Troops are disciplined if their Weapons are not clean.

10. “You go to the mall and get your hair re-done. He doesn’t have time to brush his teeth today.”

* Again this statement is Patronizing. It assumes/leads you to believe, that all the Troops don’t have time to brush their teeth, which is ludicrous.  It also presupposes that Everyone goes to the mall not to get their hair not done, but to get it re-done. A useless statement.

11. “You’re angry because your class ran 5 minutes over. He’s told he will be held over an extra 2 months.”

*And you better believe The Trooper is angry too. This is a weak statement. Please note that when a Recruit signs up for X amount of time, he is actually signing up for double that time – the 2nd half being Inactive. The Trooper is still on call if his Country ‘needs’ him.

We all know this when we sign the dotted line.

12. “You call your girlfriend and set a date for tonight. He waits for the mail hoping there is a letter from home.”

* Aimed at the young man demographic and assumes that Everyone has a girlfriend. However, if you want to support the Troops, mail call is one way to do so. If you know someone in the Military, by all means send them mail. The Troops are Human Beings, and your letters & packages delay him in turning into The Machine the Governments needs to fight its Ridiculous Wars.

13. “You hug and kiss your girlfriend like you do everyday. He holds her letter close and smells his love’s perfume.”

*Another aimed at the young man demographic. This statement seems to try to give the Trooper that Chivalrous Knight feeling. Something right out of a Romantic Novel or the Movies. It’s a fluff statement.

14. “You roll your eyes as a baby cries. He gets pictures of his new child and wonders if they’ll ever meet.”

*This assumes that most in the Populace are insensitive. And what is more important; Duty to Country or Duty to Family? I say Family. Your Country does care about you. What has your Country done for you? Don’t say build roads, that is your tax dollar. Remember a government is an entity design to SERVICE its Citizens.

The Trooper looks at a picture of his New Born Baby?

Family First.

That Trooper should do everything in his Power to get back to his Family regardless if it defies protocol.

15. “You criticize your government and say that war never solves anything. He sees the innocents tortured and killed by their own people and remembers why he is fighting.”

*This is a loaded statement. Thomas Jefferson encouraged us to Criticize our Government whether you believe War solves anything or not. He is lumping two very different animals together here.

To date numbers wounded & killed in Iraq:

American Deaths
Since war began (3/19/03): 4373 3478
Since “Mission Accomplished” (5/1/03) (the list) 4234 3371
Since Capture of Saddam (12/13/03): 3910 3173
Since Handover (6/29/04): 3514 2846
Since Obama Inauguration (1/20/09): 145 74
American Wounded Official Estimated
Total Wounded: 31613 Over 100000

Besides Troops. Here are other stats of those killed:

Contractor Employee Deaths Iraq 1,395
Journalists – Iraq 335
Academics Killed – Iraq 431

There have been 1,366,350 Iraqi Deaths since the Invasion.

Thousands upon thousands of Innocent Women & Children in Iraq and Afghanistan have been Slaughtered. Through-out History, what has war solved; especially the ones Amerika has been in? What did it solve at all?  And since when does a People wanting an Occupying Force out of their Country of Birth; an Ancient Land that they love, torture their own people?

The United States doesn’t Torture or Kill?

Does anyone remember Guantanamo Bay?

This statement is Empty and is used to tear-jerk.

16. “You hear the jokes about the war and make fun of men like him. He hears the gunfire, the bombs and the screams of the wounded.”

*I have not heard too many jokes about the War. If anyone of you can share a good joke about War, please share. If you are squeamish about putting it here for the Masses to see, please send it to my inbox.

How are ‘men like him’ made fun of? Does anyone have any clear examples?  This statement is weak. The Music & Images give this statement it’s ‘meaning’ or perhaps more accurate; its Feeling. Without the Smoke & Mirrors, this statement is absurd.

17. “You see only what the media wants you to see. He sees the broken bodies lying around him.”

*A statement I can agree with. The Masses only see what the CORPORATE MEDIA – who control the news and the TV air-waves – want you to see. Because the Internet is an Anarchistic Entity, we are also able to see the broken bodies, including the ones the Amerikan Troops made broken.

18. “You are asked to go to the store by your parents. You don’t. He does exactly what he is told even if it puts his life in danger.”

*This statement is aimed at the under 18 demographic – presumably living with their parents. The Trooper does ‘exactly what he is told – i.e. obeys orders – because he lives in a Perpetual State of Fear (whether it is an Enemy or his Superiors) and is often Brainwashed.

Note that in a Combat Situation, you can be legally Shot for Disobeying Orders.

19. “You stay at home and watch TV. He takes whatever time is given to him to make a call, write home, sleep, and eat.”

*This statement is also presuming that the Majority of the Populace is Indolent. Of course, this statement has some validity; the stereotypical couch potato need not go out-of-doors for his Entertainment. Glued to the Television, brain set in Alpha-Mode, the Corporate Media does the Potato’s thinking for him. How does one suppose that Bush, arguably the worst President in Amerika’s History, gets elected twice? Retardom.

20. “You hang and American flag in front of your house. He gives you that right by representing this country.”

*This assumes that all Amerikans are hanging flags. Again, we must look at the Demographic here. Flags are flown in pockets of areas. Besides State Institutions, one may find flags in the majority of yards in small conservative – often Protestant – towns.

Though many Immigrants show gratitude to Amerika for their Freedom, seldom are they displaying the Stars & Stripes.  <ore often than not, they are hanging their own Country Colors.

One must again ask, how is he fighting for the ‘right’ of American People to do anything?

21. “You are proud to be living in the land of the free. He is proud to fight for your freedom.”

*The Land of The Free? Amerikans have been slowly losing their Freedoms since War War II. The Patriot Act is a debilitating Document that suspends all these Freedoms. Because of the Patriot Act, the Constitution (described by Former President Bush as “a damn piece of paper”) and The Bill of Rights have basically lost their Power. And again: how is the Trooper Fighting for our Freedom in another Country?

22. “Your happy to be home with your family. He is lucky to see his family for the first time in a long time.”

* Yes, he misspelled ‘you’re’.  He assumes that all Americans come from Happy Families. He also seems to forget that at least ½ the American Population does not see their Family on a regular basis. There have been times that most of us have not seen our Families for a long time. This is another statement, coupled with the Smoke & Mirrors, that is designed to knee jerk.

23. “Your happy that your country is considered the home of the Brave. He is the brave one that gives it that title.”

*I wonder if the average person notices the ‘your’ being used for you’re.

Once upon a time, Amerika could have been called the Home of the Brave. The Native American Warriors or ‘Braves’ that fought the White Man would certainly give Credence to this statement. The Trooper however, representing the Amerikan Government in lands far away, is not perpetuating this statement.

Instead, of Amerika the Brave, it is Amerika the Bullier; Amerika the Invader; Amerika the Occupier.

And is the Trooper brave or afraid or apathetic?

Food for Thought.

At the conclusion of the film, there is this final statement:

~Whether you are for it or against it is irrelevant. The reality is that our men and women are still fighting and dying for us. All I ask is that you thank these men and women for their time and service for this country and think about what they go through.

~Created by Mike Haydanek

~”Whether you are for it or against it is irrelevant.”

* He doesn’t clarify ‘for or against’ what. But if he is talking about the Multitudes that are against the War in Iraq, how is that Irrelevant?

“The reality is that our men and women are still fighting and dying for us.”

* How are these men dying and fighting FOR US. The Troopers are fighting and dying for the interests of Corporate Amerika. This is very sad indeed. Their only Sin really is their Ignorance. The subsequent Evil i.e. the Murder of fellow Human Beings is a result of this Ignorance/Sin.

The Trooper, Indoctrinated through the Public Education system; Plagued by the Corporate Media; and Brainwashed in the Military Deprogramming/Re-programming Institution – AKA Basic Training – (you know, ‘break you down to build you back up’) is too psychologically weak to Resist.

“All I ask is that you thank these men and women for their time and service for this country and think about what they go through.”

I do have Empathy for Anyone Suffering (and this includes Animals): the Single Mother with 3 Children who cannot afford oil for most of the Winter; the Homeless Person in the street whom also might not survive the Winter; and yes, the low-ranking Trooper in a Combat Situation in Freezing Temperatures.

Those in Combat Situations do Suffer and go through a Great Deal physically, mentally, psychologically and (one hopes) Spiritually.

I pity them, I feel for them all. Unfortunately, while they might be ‘doing service for their country’, let’s not get this confused with ‘protecting our freedoms’. They are two separate meanings.

Knowledge is Power. Question Authority.

Misconstrued, bias, unthoughtful, fictional, judgmental things are the predominant means of communication, what is being communicated, how its being communicated, from whom and to whom is being communicated. Fighting it will be an endless battle so we must rely on self education to be the critical dam that slows the rapid flow of such ‘disinformation’.

Who cares what nickleback says about anything? It’s not like they are the most relevant social commentators. Put it like this, when big news happens I don’t think many people are like “Oh my god, what should I think about this? Quick, someone phone Nickleback!”

What they say is pretty much true. A whole lot of mostly poor, young, naive Americans are going through hell. Victims of the oligarchy. I support them and I sure would support them if they were to realize what they were actually fighting for and decide on Mass to stop fighting.

I enjoyed the spot-on breakdown of the silliness of this infantile song. Hopefully there will be more than a few of our brothers and sisters in the armed forces who break free of the indoctrination to become thoughtful, critical thinkers like yourself (as an ex-military guy). I still feel especially bad for those young people who signed up for the nat’l guard like many generations before them when Bush-Cheney were in charge and were used big time, in a way that was virtually unprecedented in terms of their lack of proper training, lack of adequate equipment, etc. That and the stop-loss thing, the unbelievable lowering of standards, etc. I really do feel for these young people who IMHO are often in over their heads and then often come back with serious issues that are usually not addressed, with the result being increased rates of suicide, spousal violence, depression, physical and mental health issues, etc. It doesn’t have to be like this…

Last year around this time my son was a senior in HS, he has never been a good academic sudent, but a great kid, never being in trouble, he got calls, letters, they (army-navy recruiters) even approached him in school along with his friends in similar situations to sign up. They promise them the world, they purposely look for kids who are not moving on to college and are “less fortunate” (poor).
I feel for the kids they are training and sending away. The government is looking at these kids as if they are disposable,, as if they will never be missed by good society. I support them, I dont support our governments war, and I would gladly stand in front of an 18 year old who has no idea why he is even there, except that the gov’t is telling him that he is a good person for doing so.

I think Christine sized up the situation pretty well. I really feel for these kids, I could have been one of them if things had gone differently.

One thing that seems to stick out to me is that how can anybody “give” you your “rights”? You’re born with them and have them for the entire period of your life. They’re not something that your government decides to give to you when you “support their war” or jump through one of their other hoops. They’re also something that the government cannot take away through the guise of making you “safer”. Someone who gives away their rights and freedoms for a false sense of safety deserves neither freedom nor safety.

Notice I got all my “your’s” and “you’re’s” right.

Thank you.

I watched this today. Posted by Elias on the Pat Robertson thread. Although my coal-powered, 20-year old computer took all day to download it, I managed to avoid my wife and son long enough to get it all under my belt. A good watch if you haven’t seen it yet. 10 steps to closing an open society. Just like a fitness program.

I’m also very tired of the rhetoric -supporting the troops means only engaging in conflict when there is no other way to protect citizens from invaders. It means taking care of them when they come back F’d up from the horror of it. The number one group of homeless Americans are -of course- veterans.

They’re screwed into joining, they’re screwed into fighting people who are only trying to protect their sovereignty, and they’re screwed when they come back with PTSD, can’t get health care, and can’t function in society.

I’ll say it again,
God is a concept,
By which we can measure,
Our pain,

I don’t believe in bible,
I don’t believe in tarot,
I don’t believe in Hitler,

I just believe in me,

What can I say?
The dream is over,

I was the walrus,
But now I’m John,
And so dear friends,
You just have to carry on,
The dream is over.

Paul, some people need the pap and the schmaltz to get themselves through it. Let them have it. Not everyone has has the years to reflect upon and process the things you have in order to cometo the conclusions you have now. You know it isn’t easy for any of them or any of their loved ones, and if pap like this helps them get through another day, I ask you to just try to stand back and not judge.
Peace brother. ♥

How in the hell can you say that the troops are fighting for our freedom. The point is they are fighting for the small group who have a vested interest in controlling the riches of the Muslem countries. They should never have been there in the first place. Why can’t we learn from history (Viet Nam, Panama, etc, etc). We keep repeating horrible mistakes that have taken millions of lives. Tell me, why can’t we all just respect each other and get along.

there are the orchestrators of these wars and they are the few at the top but the reality of war is played out in the lives of the people fighting and their families and the rest of us who ar watching. i think for the men and women that are fighting and trying to survive, they have no choice but to believe in the cause no matter how missguided. in a life and death situation if you don’t belief in what you are doing then you will probably not survive. i believe there are so few truely guilty people in a this wa or any warr. the troops are fighting for their survival. ideals like freedom and truth go out the window when someone is pointing a a gun at your head. I also think that the few at the top rely on this reaction from the troops. they know that in a war winning is dependant on the willingness of the troups to put their lives on the line. and on the strength of their conviction. they know what they are fighting for. to survive and come home. in order to this they have to win or become traitors to their country. my question is , how do we acuse the few at the top without blaming the troups who are the ones actually doing the killing? very complicated indeed. veterans from the vietnam war came back and were called baby killers and some took their own lives, the guilt was too much. they survived but lost themselves in the process. wars run on long after the fighting stops for the men and woman that fought it.

If we pull out of Afghanistan, can we at least leave T.V cameras setup in the football stadiums so we can watch them hacking off womens heads for doing stupid stuff like begging or scrounging for food?

Peace… At what price?
